Civilopedia entry[]

Most see the shoreline as an end. For the Dutch, the coastline was a challenge and an opportunity. The Netherlands spent 800 years reclaiming a country from the sea, using dikes, canals, levees, and pumps. Polders are the low-lying bits of land revealed when the water recedes.

The Dutch constantly maintained their polders to prevent the sea from reclaiming the land. Over the centuries, they mastered the art of keeping water out and reversing the effects of erosion. Today, more than a quarter of the Netherlands remains below sea level, leaving the country in a continuous game of tug-of-war with the North Sea.

The Steel и Модификация Thunder: Unit Expansion делает именно это.

Leveling up[]

When a unit earns enough XP to level up, a special button will appear in its Command Tab, which will trigger the process. Note that you may delay leveling up as long as you want; however, your unit won’t earn new XP until it finishes the level-up process. Also note that earning more XP than needed to reach the next level will not transfer the excess XP to the pool of the next level.

Each unit may select from a special promotions table, which is different for every unit class. Furthermore, the promotions in the table have hierarchical organization, so you will have to progress from lower-tier ones towards the more advanced ones. In general there are two main avenues for advancement, which both lead towards a final tier IV promotion. The paths may cross before reaching the ultimate promotion (meaning that you could start up one path, then cross to the other), but this happens at different levels for different classes of units.

Upon selecting a promotion, a unit recovers 50 HP and its turn ends (except when playing as Gran Colombia). Once a unit receives a Promotion, a small number next to its icon will appear, showcasing the number of Promotions it currently has. A level 2 unit will have 1 Promotion, a level 3 unit will have 2, so on and so forth.

A unit will require an amount of XP equal to 15 times the level it is currently on to reach the next level (a brand new unit starts at level 1, when it doesn’t have any Promotion yet). A unit reaches its maximum level at level 8 when it earns all 7 possible Promotions. The special «Promote» button still appears after that when the unit gathers enough XP, but it cannot be used, thus the unit cannot promote and heal anymore.

3 45 30
4 90 45
5 150 60

Civilopedia entry[]

In late 14th century Poland, there was little expectation for the king’s third daughter to do much beyond secure her country’s future through a marriage alliance. Yet in her short life, the devout Jadwiga would rule all of Poland. Selfless and canny, she sought to bring disparate peoples together through a common (and comprehensible) faith.

Jadwiga was born in 1373 to Elizabeth of Bosnia and Louis I, King of Hungary and Poland. Raised at the royal residences in Buda and Visegrad, Jadwiga was well-educated, fluent in five languages, and embarrassingly pious. When Louis’s death in 1382 led to a succession crisis, Elizabeth sent young Jadwiga to Krakow to end it. Beloved by the Polish people for her kindness, endorsed by the Catholic church for her faith, and condoned by the stiff-necked Polish nobility for her affability, 11-year-old princess Jadwiga found herself crowned king of Greater Poland in 1384.

The new Polish king to rule in perilous times. A fistful of Casimir’s more tenuous descendants still had claims to the throne. Worse, Poland was threatened by Germanic states and the rulers of Muscovy, as well as possible invasion by the Mongols and Tartars. To shore up allies and safeguard Poland’s future, Jadwiga agreed to marry Jogaila, the Grand Duke of Lithuania—provided he (and his subjects) converted from paganism to Catholicism.

Thus, in 1386 Jadwiga wed the newly baptized Jogaila, who promptly took the name Wladyslaw II to make his rule palatable to the patriotic Poles. Wladyslaw was hastily crowned King jure uxoris (Latin for “by right of his wife”), two days before Lithuania was invaded by the Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem (in simpler terms, the Teutonic Knights). They claimed they sought to regain lands lost to Casimir—but really, any land would do.

The young king was instrumental in turning Lithuania from its pagan ways. She had a number of meetings with “Princes of the Church” concerning conversion and instructing the Lithuanians in their new faith. Wladyslaw was instrumental in this as well; it is said that he even cut down trees in the “sacred” groves of his homeland with his own hands. Jadwiga sponsored an annual scholarship for twenty Lithuanians to study at Prague’s Charles University so they could return to strengthen the faith in their homeland. And she founded a bishopric in Vilnius, that hotbed of sin.

Jadwiga and Wladyslaw made a surprisingly effective team of co-rulers. During Jadwiga’s diplomatic mission to meet the Master of the Teutonic Knights, her piety was said to so shame him for his order’s greed and bloodthirstiness that they temporarily ceased their depredations. She also reconciled Wladyslaw with his cousin Witold, who sought to take the Lithuanian throne. In 1387 AD, Jadwiga led two military expeditions to reclaim lands in Ruthenia that had been claimed by Hungary. Although not much fighting occurred, Jadwiga’s efforts ended with the province’s return to Poland and Petru I of Moldavia paying homage to the Polish monarchs.

Being somewhat more polished than most of her subjects, Jadwiga also sought to enlighten them to the finer things. Jadwiga was a patron to many Polish artists and authors. Among her most notable contributions to the culture of Poland was the restoration of the Krakow Academy. She donated much of her personal jewelry to finance the school, which enrolled students in astronomy, law, and theology. Jadwiga also advocated for a wider comprehension of faith, and had the Bible translated from Latin into Polish vernacular.

Jadwiga’s reign ended early. In 1399 she gave birth to her firstborn, a daughter—but within a month both mother and child were dead of complications from the delivery. Though Jadwiga lived only 25 years, she had been king for over half her life. By solidifying ties with Lithuania, she secured the future of both nations. Her co-ruler Wladyslaw managed to rule over Poland and Lithuania for another 35 years.

Jadwiga was barely in her sarcophagus in Wawel Cathedral before her subjects began to venerate her holiness. Stories of Jadwiga’s sanctity spread across the land, as well as miracles attributed to her. In one, the figure of Christ on a black crucifix spoke to her as she prayed. In another, she gave a piece of jewelry to a poor stonemason; when she left, her footprint remained behind in the hardened plaster floor. In yet another, a coppersmith’s son drowned while Jadwiga was part of a nearby Corpus Christi procession—she was said to restore his life by throwing her mantle over the boy. These three reported miracles were enough for the Catholic Church to canonize her as a saint in 1997.

Civilization VI.

Mechanics[]

Science is a very streamlined statistic: it has the singular purpose to power your progress through the Technology tree. Each turn your raw Science output, plus eventual lump sums of Science earned during gameplay, are gathered empire-wide and applied towards the technology you are currently researching. Since this is a fully automatic process (Tech research starts automatically the moment you Found your first city, and doesn’t stop until the end of the game), there is very little the player has to do when it comes to Science.

Note that the raw Science output of your nation is not the only way to progress scientifically, but it is still essential!

Мод с метко названным пока (Not) Another Maps Pack делает несколько вещей.

Civilopedia entry[]

When storms lash the Caribbean and West African coasts, when tornadoes tear through a village, when the hurricanes come, followers of Yoruba and New World African religions believe that this is Oya’s power. The Yoruba people of West Africa have a rich religious tradition, with four hundred and one separate divinities. When Yoruba were enslaved and brought to colonies in the Caribbean, their traditions fused with Christianity to make new religions such as Haitian Vodun. In Africa, Oya is an orisha, a goddess that once was a person (or was a spirit, and then made flesh). Her name means literally «she tore,» and as such she is the goddess of change, winds, and storms, and the ruler of the Niger river. In Haiti, Oya is transformed into the Irish loa (the Haitian version of orisha) Maman Brigette – who is, for Catholics, Saint Brigid of Kildare.

Oya is the sister-wife to Shango, the god of thunder, and was the only one of his wives to stick with the loud-mouthed god. When they set off to war, they do so together, with Oya bringing the wind first, and Shango following afterwards with lightning.

The two fight each other at times, too. Once, Oya had two buffalo horns on her head, and in the middle of a fight, she charged at Shango with them, meaning to gore him. Shango didn’t fight back; instead, he presented her favorite food: akara (bean cakes). Oya was so delighted that she surrendered her horns to him. Now, if Shango finds himself in trouble, all he has to do to summon Oya is to clack the horns together, and she comes with all the fury of the wind.

Oya is still actively worshipped in Africa and the Caribbean. When a follower enters a trance and becomes possessed, she is notoriously loud and foul-mouthed, but, like the wind, promises to shake up whatever seems firmly rooted.
