Baldur’s gate ii: shadows of amn

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition[]

The Enhanced Edition adds three companions the protagonist can get closer with, but these romances only act as an introduction to the ones in Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition. There are two romance options for male characters and two for female characters. Male protagonists get both a male and a female romance option, whereas female protagonists only have the male romance option.

Additional inter-character relationships

Dorn’s former companion Dorotea tried to seduce him back when they where still traveling together.

Dorn Il-Khan Neutral Evil Half-orc Blackguard Any gender; Any race
Neera Chaotic Neutral Half-elf Wild Mage Male; Any race

The return to Harper Hold[]

Six days later Dermin returns and warn that Jaheira’s death has been arranged unless she goes with him, which she agrees to think about, no more. Dermin leaves again.

The next time you wake up in the wilderness, you’ll find Jaheira have departed. Soon a strange Mage named Terminsel arrives and gives you a note explaining why she has left, her urging you not to follow, plus her destination — the Harper Hold in Docks, again. Return to the Harper Hold, deal with a group of mercenaries on the ground floor, go upstairs to welcome Jaheira back to team, kill a new group of mercenaries that arrive downstairs and get out.

Trivia[]

  • In Baldur’s Gate (novel), Xzar and Montaron were working for Grand Duke Fazio during the Baldur’s Gate event, he was later killed by Sarevok, who removed his right leg and other parts of his body.
  • The adventure module Heroes of Baldur’s Gate, which takes place one year after the events of Baldur’s Gate, presents Xzar as also being a Bhaalspawn , a fact he discovered thanks to researching Sarevok after the latter’s death.
  • The benevolent behavior in the initial conversation he has with Gorion’s ward: it is misleading to new gamers. As Xzar he is a particularly sneaky and arrogant character to everyone.
  • His battlecry is a reference to J.Robert Oppenheimer.

Jaheira renounces her Harper status[]

Right after Xzar is killed, Meronia appears (unless bug encountered) to inform Jaheira that her presence is needed by the Harpers (if you are in a romance with Jaheira, Meronia will only appear after certain romance stages).

Sleep somewhere to make Jaheira return, this time you’ll accompany her to the Harpers Hold in Docks, where you’ll be questioned by Galvarey, no matter what you say, he sees what he wants to see, soon it becomes obvious that he means you harm, stand with Jaheira and kill the twisted Galvarey and his fellow harpers. Note the Ring of Wizardry as a loot.

After four days passed, and probably some banters too, Reviane appears. With a high enough reputation (16 or higher) and the right dialogue choices (1,2) Reviane can be convinced to not fight you, otherwise prepare for battle. Beware if she appears in civilized areas as you don’t want the cross fire to hit innocents. Another three days passed, Dermin Courtierdale, another old acquaintances of Jaheira’s, appears to tell that he’s sent to kill her, their talk ends up in Jaheira renouncing her standing as a Harper, Dermin leaves for now.

Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition[]

Recruitment

You must recruit Hexxat before Chapter 4, if you haven’t met her before sailing to Brynnlaw, you miss the chance to recruit her. She can be found in Dragomir’s Tomb entered from Athkatla Graveyard after accepting Clara’s request in Copper Coronet in Slums.

Relationships

  • She will romance female protagonists of any race
  • Aerie – Conflicts during Throne of Bhaal
  • Anomen – Conflicts
  • Keldorn – They can’t be in the same party
  • Mazzy – Conflicts
  • Valygar – Conflicts
  • Viconia – They will flirt

Gameplay

Being a vampire, the only undead companion in game, Hexxat has several special abilities:

  • Blood Drain — Drain the target of 1-4 Constitution and knock him unconscious for 5 rounds. Saving throw: Save vs. Death.
  • Children of the Night — Summons 1d4 creatures, depending on her level:

    • 1-10: rats
    • 11-20: wolves
    • 21-30: shadows
  • Domination (Hexxat) — This ability is similar to wizard spell Domination and priest spell Mental Domination, but casting time is 1, and the target has no option for release, even if made to do something against their moral. The Saving Throw to negate the effect has a -2 penalty. The effect can be reversed only by Dispel Magic.

After joining she will ask Gorion’s Ward to keep Dragomir’s Respite, a Bag of Holding containing her coffin. When «killed» she takes gaseous form, goes to her coffin and regenerates in a few hours.

She comes equipped with a non-removable Hexxat’s Amulet, which provides 1 HP/round regeneration, immunity to Charm, Domination, Panic, Berserk, Bleeding, Sleep, Paralysis, Poison, Poison Damage, Disease Level drain and Ability Score Drain not caused by illithids.

Sun damages her however, but the Cloak of Dragomir allows her to travel under the sun, with penalties to her ability scores. She will refuse to use anti-undead items such as Daystar, the Burning Earth, or Protection From Undead.

Biography

A striking woman of Chultan descent, Hexxat holds her secrets dear. When pressed, she speaks in vague terms about her mother, a cleric of Ubtao, and the aunts who raised her. Of her life beyond childhood, she says nothing, other than that her immediate assignment was given her by someone known only as L. Discretion is a requirement of Hexxat’s profession, and she prides herself on being a consummate professional.

Background[]

Ajantis is the only paladin of Helm companion in the original game and a member of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart. He originally hails from Waterdeep and is Keldorn’s squire.

Biography

When asked about his past, AJANTIS announces that he is a squire paladin of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart, and that he enforces the power and discipline of Helm.

He belongs to the noble family of Ilvastarr in Waterdeep and has studied swordplay under such luminaries as Myrmith Splendon. His skill and devotion apparently brought him to the attention of the paladin Keldorn, one of the most respected of the Order, who decided to take Ajantis under his wing as a squire.

Recently Ajantis has asked for the honor of becoming a full-fledged member of the Order. To accomplish this, he has traveled to the Sword Coast in order to help curtail the increased humanoid activity in the region. If he succeeds in his quest, the Order will vote on his eligibility for membership. He seems utterly devoted to his mission.

Personality

Ajantis is a hot-headed do-gooder who senses evil everywhere and is rather quick to jump to conclusions. He is determined and dutiful and not afraid to die for the greater good. But he´s also rather naive and sees the world in only black and white. Furthermore, he is a gentleman and will make sure people behave when women are around.

Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear[]

This game features eight different romanceable characters, four options for female protagonists and six options for male ones. Unlike in the previous game, these romances all go to the point where a legitimate relationship between the companion and the protagonist is formed (in one form or another). There are male and female options regardless of the protagonist’s gender.

Inter-character relationships

  • Khalid & Jaheira are still happily married.
  • Eldoth & Skie have broken up by now.
  • Coran & Safana have an affair with each other in the beginning but she leaves him.
  • Garrick is unsuccessfully courting a woman in the Elfsong Tavern.
  • Voghiln & Safana can have an affair with each other.
  • Corwin has an ex-husband named Beno Famari.

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition —

Nintendo Switch.

  • операционная система — Windows 7, 8, 10;
  • свободного места на диске — 2 ГБ;

Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn & Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal[]

This game first introduced romances to the series. There are three options for male protagonists and one option for female protagonists. All of these romances are for the opposite sex only and all come with racial restrictions. That means that there are no romances for female dwarf, gnome and half-orc protagonists or male dwarf protagonists.

Inter-character relationships

  • Jaheira is now a widow, due to Khalid’s murder/mutilation immediately before Chapter 1 of Baldur’s Gate II.
  • Coran is still running after Safana.
  • Garrick is unsuccessfully courting a paladin of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart.
  • Edwin & Viconia will heavily flirt with each other.
  • Aerie & Haer’Dalis

If the protagonist is romancing Aerie, he will eventually clash with Haer’Dalis.

will start dating each other if they are in the party at the same time.

  • Jan Jansen is in unrequited love with his childhood sweetheart Lissa, who married another man.
  • Korgan will (unsuccessfully) hit on a multitude of the female companions, especially Mazzy.
  • Keldorn is in a broken marriage with Maria.

Companion Alignment Race Class Requirements
Aerie Lawful Good Elf Cleric / Mage Male; Human, Elf, Half-elf, Halfling, Gnome
Anomen Delryn Lawful Neutral Human Fighter / Cleric Female; Human, Elf, Half-elf, Halfling
True Neutral Half-elf Fighter / Druid Male; Human, Elf, Half-elf, Halfling

Anomen

It is possible to romance Anomen. The requirements for the protagonist are to be female and either a human, elf, half-elf or halfling. The player does not have to brownnose him but he doesn’t like being made fun of and sometimes he will get angry for seemingly no good reason.

In Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn:

Anomen will begin the romance by saying «I prithee, my lady…» and will continue to talk to her about his heroic accomplishments and his past, as well as ask her about her adventures at Baldur’s Gate. After five conversations, he will begin the next dialogue with «My lady, I feel most terrible about my burst of temper the previous day…» After this conversation, the next time you return to an outdoor area, a messenger named Terl comes to Anomen telling him that his sister was murdered, and Anomen asks to speak with his father about how this happened. Upon entering the Delryn Estate, Anomen’s father, Cor Delryn, claims that a man named Saerk Farrahd was responsible for the murder, and orders Anomen to go to Saerk’s estate and kill him. You must then choose to either advise Anomen to listen to his father, or let the law handle it and move on (see Anomen Returns Home After his Sister’s Death for more information). After that quest, Anomen will begin again with the lovetalk. Soon, he will start a conversation with «My Test is coming very soon, my lady.» at which point, you may go to the Order for Anomen to take his test. Depending on the decision you made earlier about his NPC quest, he will either pass or fail the test. It is possible to continue the romance either way.

Several days after that, Anomen is again approached by Terl, who reveals the real murderer(s) of Moira (see Anomen Returns Home After his Sister’s Death for details).

After that, Anomen will continue with a few more lovetalks in which you will officially start ‘dating’.

After returning from the Underdark, when you reach the graveyard district, Bodhi will abduct Anomen from your party and turn him into a vampire (if you have successfully completed the romance with him) and you will be forced to kill him. Don’t panic! There’s a way to get him back! Visit the final battle with Bodhi to find out how.

In Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal

Anomen’s romance will continue in Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal if you meet these requirements:

  • You import your game from Shadows of Amn or continue from Shadows of Amn straight into the expansion pack.
  • You continue with the same party as you had in Shadows of Amn.
  • You have completed his romance in Shadows of Amn.

If you meet all of these requirements, then the romance continues. Anomen will become increasingly nervous about your destiny. All you have to do is calm him down and tell him that you love him and want to be together forever. He will eventually ask you to marry him!

Personality[]

Jaheira has a luscious European accent, and Khalid, a stammer. Their personalities are opposed in this way and others. Jaheira tends to be headstrong and very certain of her own ways, sometimes to the annoyance of other NPCs (Viconia, for example) or (depending on how the player character reacts at certain points) even the protagonist. Many companions refuse to be servile flunkies at the beck and call of the player, and Jaheira is no exception: «Yes, oh omnipresent authority figure?» (Which, of course means the player, not the character, unlike the other followers).

Jaheira’s inconsistency with regards to party deaths is a perfectly ironic blend of true love for her mate and jaded neutrality to the fate of others. She is normally philosophical, even laconic, about the death of other party members, with a «No tears shed for those lost in righteous battle». Should Khalid die, however, she lets out an anguished wail.

Sorcerer

The Sorcerer is the best single class build and also the best build for a solo walkthrough. The main advantage of this class is that it gets spells automatically, with no need to scribe them, plus a Sorcerer can cast more spells per day than any other Wizard.

What a Sorcerer Excels In:

  • The Sorcerer is a spell casting machine.
  • Spell casting does not really depend on stats.
  • If you pick the right spells at level up, the Sorcerer build makes for some of the easiest playthroughs.

Build Details:

  • Can be Human or Elf.
  • Recommended stats: 14 Strength, 18 Dexterity, 16 Constitution, 9 Intelligence, 18 Wisdom, 18 Charisma.
  • Key spells: Blindness, Mirror Image, Web, Skull Trap, Melf’s Minute Meteors, Stoneskin, Minor Sequencer, Animate Dead, Breach, Spell Immunity, Sunfire, True Sight, Protection from Magical Weapons, Project Image, Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting, Chain Contingency, Time Stop, Wish, Improved Alacrity and Summon Planetar.

The Harper plot revealed[]

After at least two days, sleep eight hours outdoors without neutral creatures around. If you aren’t romancing Jaheira, or if you have had a conversation with her about the last events as part of romance talks, Dermin appears with his goons. Jaheira and him have it out with a war of words, then the battle begins.

After the killing, Jaheira seems to be quite upset about this recent turn of events.

A long, long time (real time, so you can’t just Rest to get this) has passed since the last event, Terminsel shows up again and asks Jaheira a series questions, Jaheira’s firm answer leads to:

  • 100,000 xp for protagonist + Harper Pin, if you’re romancing her and have at least 10 reputation
  • 100,000 xp for protagonist, if you’re romancing her and reputation is less than 10
  • Harper Pin, if you’re not romancing her and have at least 15 reputation
  • Nothing, if you’re not romancing her and reputation is less than 15

Oh, and Terminsel? His name is an anagram for… Elminster. Impatient? Force Terminsel to show up via console:

CLUAConsole:SetGlobal(«TerminselSpawn»,»GLOBAL»,5)CLUAConsole:CreateCreature(«jatermin»)

Gnome Fighter / Illusionist

This is the best dual class build in Baldur’s Gate, period. This build benefits from the martial arts prowess of the Fighter, while at the same time being able to cast spells as a full-fledged Mage.

What a Gnome Fighter / Illusionist Excels In:

  • Can fight melee AND cast spells at the same time.
  • Can use some of the best weapons in the game, including the Flail of Ages, Celestial Fury, Belm and the Staff of the Magi.
  • Bonus to saves vs. Wands and Spells (up to +5, at 18 Constitution).
  • Awesome abilities, including Greater Whirlwind, Critical Strike, Hardiness and Smite.

Build Details:

  • Race must be Gnome, for the bonuses in saves and the extra spell slot.
  • Preferably 19 Intelligence.
  • Key spells: Web, Mirror Image, Blindness, Melf’s Minute Meteors, Stoneskin and Chromatic Orb
  • For weapons, use Flails, Katanas, Scimitars or Staffs.

Baldur’s Gate[]

On a quest to fight the bandits and put an end to their operations, Ajantis has come to the region to prove his worth to the Order, hoping it will earn him knighthood.

Recruitment

Ajantis is available to be recruited for the party from Chapter One on. He can be found near the Fishing Village north of the Friendly Arm Inn, standing on the road south of the settlement. If dismissed from the party, he will wait wherever the player leaves him.

Gameplay

Next to Safana, Ajantis’ charisma of 17 is the highest of any companion in the game, making him an excellent leader for good-aligned parties to gain store discounts and favorable reaction adjustments. His good strength and constitution scores let him fill both front-line combatant and tank role well.

Ajantis’ level, skills and equipment upon initially picking him up scale according to the average party level. He will either be level 2, 4 or 6.

He has a rather poor skill set, as the Bastard Sword that he initially specialized in, and comes equipped with, is a one-handed weapon. It is far better to recruit him early, both to maximize his hp and to better manage his proficiencies.

In the Enhanced Edition, companions who are under-leveled at the time of joining will be given a certain amount of experience points (XP) to manually level them up and gain more control of their status.

Personality[]

Imoen is a care-free, optimistic, cheerful and easy-going character. She seems happy to have escaped the boredom of Candlekeep and eager to discover the world beyond the city walls. Imoen will try to joke around with Gorion’s Ward and almost any other companions in the group and lighten their spirits in the hardest moments to come. She never picks up fights with any others, no matter how different they are.

Imoen is also unyieldingly faithful, extremely attached to Gorion’s Ward, to the extent that she thinks it’s her responsibility to safeguard the Ward and sees herself as the Ward’s guardian angel.

In Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn Imoen appears a bit worried and more mature, as she struggles with her newly-discovered Bhaalspawn heritage and the nightmares related to it. Nonetheless, she retains a great portion of her care-free attitude.
