Starter Tips
Stoneblock 2 Starting Area
Follow these steps to get started with this modpack:
- Break stone with your fists to get pebbles.
- Combine pebbles in the 2×2 crafting grid to get cobblestone.
- Combine cobblestone in the 2×2 crafting grid to get a stone crafting table.
- Make stone rods by using the stick recipe, but with cobblestone instead of wooden planks.
- Craft a stone pickaxe and stone hammer using the stone rods and cobblestone (hammer and all other recipes can be looked up in the NEI menu).
- Place cobblestones on the ground and break using the hammer to acquire dirt.
- Place dirt on the ground and break using a stone crook to acquire various saplings.
- Plant saplings and repeatedly crouch (tap shift) near the sapling to grow a tree and get wood. The crook can be used on the leaves to get even more saplings and silkworms.
- Use a silkworm on the leaves and wait until all the leaves turn white. Break white leaves to get string.
- Use wood and string to craft a sieve and string mesh. Dirt, gravel, sand, and dust can be sifted to get various other items in the game.
- Dig a bit further out and make a mob-farm area to get bones and other mob drops. Zombie brains are a good food source at the beginning.
- Make dust by hammering cobblestone all the way and put the dust in a barrel of water to get clay. Water can be created by filling a barrel with saplings.
- Combine clayballs and bonemeal to get porcelain clay to make a crucible, which can be used to make lava.
After following these steps you will have most of the essentials to get started with the other mods. Follow the quest book from here and lookup recipes in the NEI menu to keep progressing.

Tips[]
- When in a Hardmode biome, it can be easy to spot these naturally generated Active Stone Blocks if the surrounding blocks are in Corruption, Crimson or Hallow because, unlike regular stone blocks, they cannot be corrupted.
- Even without the Mechanic (required to obtain wiring tools), this item still has use if harvested from naturally-occurring Boulder traps underground. The player can select this item in the hotbar to see a layout of all wires on screen, which is useful for detecting and avoiding natural traps.
- A vertical strip of three Active Stone Blocks wired to a nearby Switch or Lever serves as a good alternative to doors that only players can open. NPCs will not be able to use them to stray outside, and no enemy can ever open them. Note that this will not fulfill a house’s entrance requirement, so at least one actual door will still be required in order for an NPC to move in (though the door need not lead «outside», and can merely open into another room of a larger structure). Using Blue Pressure Plates on either side causes the «door» to turn inactive for a moment, then return to active the very instant the player reaches the other side. As Blue Pressure Plates are only triggered by players, this can also keep Zombies and such out during a Blood Moon
It is also possible to make an airlock-type double door system using 3 Active Stone Blocks and 3 Inactive Stone Blocks (or 6 of one or the other and activating only one side inactive/active) while still only allowing access for players only. This is useful for underground housing to keep underground enemies out.
.
- To conserve storage space, consider switching all Inactive Stone Blocks to Active Stone Blocks, or vice versa. This can easily save an inventory or storage slot by combining the stacks.

1.0.0 | Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3 | A white cobblestone texture was added to the terrain.png presumably to be used as end stone; however it wasn’t used by any block at the time. Language files from 1.1 suggest this texture to be the original texture for end stone, as the internal name and translation key was «whiteStone» | |||||||
Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4 | The white texture has been changed, and end stone has been introduced as a block with the overhauled texture. | ||||||||
End stone can be successfully mined only with a pickaxe, dropping cobblestone like normal stone. | |||||||||

Obtaining[]
Cobblestone requires a pickaxe to be mined, in which case it drops itself. If mined without a pickaxe, it drops nothing. Its hardness is greater than stone so it requires more time to break, especially with anything other than a pickaxe.
Block | Cobblestone |
---|---|
Hardness | 2 |
Tool | |
Breaking time | |
Default | 10 |
Wooden | 1.5 |
Stone | 0.75 |
Iron | 0.5 |
Diamond | 0.4 |
Netherite | 0.35 |
Golden | 0.25 |
- Times are for unenchanted tools as wielded by players with no status effects, measured in seconds. For more information, see .
Cobblestone is dropped by stone when mined without Silk Touch, and also by infested cobblestone when mined with Silk Touch.
Natural generation
Cobblestone occurs naturally in dungeons, jungle temples, pillager outposts, underwater ruins, strongholds, plains, taiga and snowy tundra villages, and woodland mansions.
Post-generation
See also: Tutorials/Cobblestone farming
When water and flowing lava come into contact, the flowing lava is replaced by cobblestone. However, if the lava flows on top of the water from above, stone is created instead. Non-flowing lava (a lava source block) turns into obsidian upon contact with water, thus the requirement of flowing lava.
Usage[]
Blackstone can be used as a substitute for cobblestone in the Nether as it can be used to craft stone tools, brewing stands, and furnaces. It can also be used to repair stone tools using an anvil [Java Edition only]. It can also be used to craft polished blackstone.
Blackstone cannot be used to craft dispensers, droppers, pistons, or other blocks that use cobblestone in their recipes. This is intended per .

Milestones
For more guidance on progress, pick some of these milestones and work towards achieving them. They can mostly be done in any order, but some might be easier if done later (like draconic evolution and project E).
- Go to the mining dimension by digging all the way up to the top of the map (best to make an upward staircase or a ladder going up).
- Gather ores and items from the mining dimension to create basics: diamond tools, diamond armor, etc.
- Build a reactor and use uranium from the mining dimension to fuel it.
- Craft cloches and mystical agriculture seeds to start growing some basic crops: chicken essence, iron, diamonds, etc.
- Build an Advanced Energistics 2 (AE2) computer storage system.
- Build an automated mob grinder, using mob fans, a mob grinder block, and item collectors. Feed the drops into an AE2 computer storage system.
- Get an RFTools builder, which will rapidly clear out stone in different shapes using energy. They can be charged to work faster with dimensional shards, but this will use a lot more energy.
RFTools Builders can hollow out large areas quickly.
- Make an end cake to go to the end. Kill the ender chicken (replaces the ender dragon in this modpack), but be careful as it’s quite difficult without proper armor. You’ll also need to hit it with a chicken stick to break its shield.
- Progress through the chicken and fluid cow mods.
- The botania mod is less important in this pack than for example Sky Factory 3, but you can go through it nonetheless.
- Craft a farming station and make a large mystical agriculture farm.
- Hollow out a very large area using the RFTools builder and build a large megabase.
- Endgame: Progress through the Draconic Evolution mod to get draconic armor, a draconic bow, and energy storage.
- Endgame: Progress through the Project E mod and get a transmutation table. Get a tome of knowledge to acquire all recipes and max out your EMC.

Notes[]
- When an altar is smashed, there is a
66.67*2/3 (66.67%) chance of a stone block in the Cavern layer to be selected at random and transformed into an infected version, either Pearlstone, or (depending on the world evil) Crimstone or Ebonstone. - Due to biome infection in general, it is usually wiser to avoid building with plain stone blocks, lest your base or other construction be infected. Instead, stone can be crafted into one of the many available bricks and brick-like blocks, and those used for building. Bricks, slabs, and similar crafted blocks cannot be infected, and can help block the spread of those biomes.
- In particular, Stone Slabs can be produced 1:1 from stone, while Gray Bricks cost 2 stone for each brick; both require no other ingredients and keep stone’s basic gray color.
- If the original texture of stone is needed, Active Stone Blocks appear identical to stone but are incorruptible; if no wires are placed on them, their special feature is irrelevant. Making them in quantity can become expensive due to the wire needed, but wire (and Active Stone Blocks themselves) can be harvested from various «natural» traps.
- The look when stone is mined is different from the look when stone is placed.

Natural generation
A large island consisting entirely of end stone.
End stone is found only in The End, where it makes up all the floating islands that generate in the dimension.
End exit portal
The 16 end stone blocks under the edge of the exit portal are replaced when the ender dragon is respawned, and again when it is killed. Because end crystals, which are used to respawn the dragon, are renewable, this does make end stone renewable.
End stone may generate close to gateway portals post-generation.
If an exit portal exists at a different position from the world origin (for example, an old exit portal from before 1.9), it will be completely converted into end stone if the ender dragon is resummoned.
