May 4, 2021 — TF2 Team

Community Clash is coming to North America! EssentialsTF is hosting an online TF2 tournament on the 8th & 9th of May, with a prize pool of $2,400 up for grabs! Partnering with DreamHack, the tournament will feature an open bracket from which teams can progress to compete against the best teams in the world for their chance at glory.

If you’re new to competitive or don’t have a lot of experience, try their Newcomer Clash! The smaller newcomer tournament is solely for new players to try competitive for their chance at a $90 prize pool.

The event begins on Saturday, May 8th, at 13:00 EDT, and will feature the group stages. Sunday, May 9th, will include the elimination playoffs starting at 13:30 EDT, leading to the grand finals where a champion will be crowned!

Signups for both the main and newcomer tournaments will end on Thursday, May 6th, at 18:00 EDT. You can watch the tournament live on the EssentialsTF Twitch channel, and you can get more information about the event, such as the full schedule, on Clash.TF.

An update to Team Fortress 2 has been released. The update will be applied automatically when you restart Team Fortress 2. The major changes include:

• Added the Summer 2021 Cosmetic Case
  • Contains 18 new community-contributed items
  • Adds 6 new community-created Unusual effects
• Numerous security and stability improvements
• Added a cooldown before a player can create a vote when they join a match already in-progress
  • sv_vote_late_join_time controls the grace period after the match starts before the cooldown is applied: default 90 secs
  • sv_vote_late_join_cooldown controls the length of the cooldown: default 5 min
• Kick votes will end early and automatically pass if the vote target leaves the match during the vote
• Added a ConVar to control players changing their name during a match
  • tf_allow_player_name_change: default is 1
  • Matchmaking servers will set this to 0
• Updated the player list in the vote-kick dialog to show the time each player has been connected to the server
• Removed the disconnect reason from the message when players leave the server
• Updated the Mann vs. Machine «inspect» command to only work for players in your party or in your Friends list

Появление контрактов – аналога компендиума в доте – также освежило TF2. За их выполнение давали снаряжение, и у игроков появилось дополнительное занятие.

Были и не очень удачные решения. В июле 2016-го – через два месяца после релиза Overwatch – Valve наконец-то добавила рейтинговую систему в дополнении «Meet Your Match», но ее весьма прохладно приняли, посчитав бесполезной.

Матчмейкинг, появившийся в дополнение к привычному поиску (как в CS 1.6, с общедоступным списком серверов и возможностью подключиться по IP), был с малым пулом карт и режимов. Игроки были недовольны системой подбора игроков, сбалансированием команд и поиском матчей – вас могло закинуть в уже заканчивающуюся игру. При этом, в отличие от обычных серверов, нельзя подключиться к играм друзей. Доходило до абсурда – участники матча могли с помощью голосования кикнуть читера, а система, посчитав этот сервер лучшим для нечестного игрока, вернуть обратно при старте поиска.

В марте 2018-го Valve переработала систему подбора игр, сделав ее аналогичной той, что используется в CS:GO.

«Важно сделать внеигровой контент к выходу обновлений таким же привлекательным, как и саму игру. Это отлично получается в MMO

В нашем случае это означало разбитие истории на несколько частей», – пояснял Людвиг.

Или забавную историю о том, как герои обнаружили неприятные последствия частого использования телепортов.

Был даже запланирован анимационный сериал по TF2 для Adult Swim (блока на Cartoon Network, транслирующего мультфильмы и шоу для взрослых, например, «Рика и Морти»), но его отменили. Он должен был быть создан при помощи Source Filmmaker. Adult Swim собирался выделить около 15 минут эфирного времени на ролик – сами серии должны были длиться около 11 минут, чтобы можно было встраивать блоки рекламы. Однако Valve не прислушалась к требованиям и предоставила пилотный выпуск, продолжительность которого – 20 минут. Компании ни к чему не пришли.

В Team Fortress 2 воплощались идеи аудитории: например, так появились горящие стрелы.

«Мы увидели обсуждения на форумах о том, как было бы круто, если бы Пиро мог поджигать стрелы Снайпера. Честно говоря, мы не думали об этом, но сумели проработать такую механику к следующему патчу», – поделился Людвиг.  

Компания активно сотрудничала с сообществом. Например, все предметы обновления «Манн-кономика» созданы сторонними художниками, а дополнение Invasion (не связано с Team Fortress Invasion) с новыми картами, предметами, эффектами и насмешками было полностью сделано игроками. 

А как вам патч, который объявляется по частям, да еще и при помощи вкусных плюшек? Valve выпустили сотню золотых ключей, и как только счастливчику выпадал такой ключ при перековке предметов, об этом объявляли на весь сервер. После каждых 25 ключей Valve публиковали кусочек патчноута.

  • Wooden crates and furniture from the 2Fort division has had the minimum DirectX levels restored and should now be visible to mercs
  • Clipping of ledges and outcroppings around the Control Points has been installed to keep the merc’s boots on the ground
  • The train tunnels will no longer allow for early escape

• Added Loch-n-Load kill icon.

• Fixed the Kritzkrieg charge deployed sound getting stuck on.
• Fixed the Heavy’s fists not playing the critical hit animation.

An update to Team Fortress 2 has been released. The update will be applied automatically when you restart Team Fortress 2. The major changes include:

• Several fixes to address exploits and stability issues
• Fixed server crash related to the CTriggerAddTFPlayerCondition map entity
• Fixed client crash when playing Mann vs. Machine
• Fixed client crash on exit
• Fixed Scouts not being able to pick-up the Sandman’s baseball
• Fixed broken Unusual effects for the Exquisite Rack, the Stainless Pot, and the Universal Translator
• Fixed broken Strange Filter store images for Brimstone, Maple Ridge Event, and Pit of Death
• Updated r_screenoverlay command to accept ‘0’ as well as ‘off’ to disable overlays. This fixes some community mods that were incorrectly expecting 0 to disable the overlay, resulting in unexpected behavior.
• Added «Reset All Achievements» button to the Achievements dialog
  • A small number of achievements are based on player stats and will be awarded again when Team Fortress 2 is restarted unless the player stats are also reset
  • Resetting achievements will not allow you to receive achievement-based items multiple times
• Players who consistently demonstrate a pattern of negative behavior in-game (based upon excessive reports from other players and several other factors) will now receive a temporary matchmaking ban

Team Fortress 2 Update Released

The biggest event on the Competitive TF2 calendar is back again! ​Teams and players from around the entire world will be heading to the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England, to the ​Insomnia Gaming Festival for their chance at glory and a share of the prize pool. Taking place from Friday, August 23rd, to Sunday, August 25th, the event will feature three days of non-stop action and the highest level of competition the game has to offer.

If you wish to support the event there is an ​ongoing fundraiser​ where you can donate money or purchase a range of items; money raised goes towards the production, prize pool, and supporting the North American team, Ascent.NA, attending to represent their region.

Патчноуты появлялись до самих обновлений – не так, как сейчас это происходит в CS:GO и Dota 2. 

Последнее крупное дополнение со своим тизером – «Пламенные джунгли» – вышло в октябре 2017-го. С тех пор были лишь праздничные обновления в честь Хеллоуина и Рождества, а 24 августа ежегодно отмечают день рождения серии. Всего было выпущено более 670 патчей, из них более 40 – масштабные.

Компания отлично справилась с естественным оттоком игроком. Спустя четыре года после релиза – летом 2011-го – с выходом Убер-обновления игра стала условно-бесплатной.

В 2012-м был выпущен новый PvE-режим «Манн против машин» – игроки должны сражаться с волнами своих (и не только) механических копий, не давая им уничтожить базу.

An update to Team Fortress 2 has been released. The update will be applied automatically when you restart Team Fortress 2. The major changes include:

• Added tournament/community medals for HLMixes, Hydro.tf, Ready Steady Pan Season 4, and Blapature
• Tweaked Competitive Mode MMR calculations
  • MMR mobility increased somewhat across the board
  • Players who have high game counts relative to the rest of the player base should see fewer adjustments of 1 or 0 MMR
• Updated pl_enclosure_final to fix a displacement hole in stage two
• Updated Test Run items such that the discount is not valid if the item is already on sale in the Mann Co. Store
• Updated the models for The Frontier Djustice, The Rotation Sensation, and the Elf Esteem to fix display problems with unusual effects

TFConnect is back with another action-packed, content-filled charity livestream event — but this time, instead of taking place during the harsh, unforgiving months of winter, they’re coming at you during the scorching, equally as unforgiving months of summer!

The Midsummer Mashup is a weekend-long charity fundraising livestream taking place during the weekend of June 26-27th, starting at 6pm BST / 1pm EDT, and is focused around the Team Fortress 2 community in support of Stop AAPI Hate, an organization that responds to incidents of hate and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

They’re going to have your favorite content creators playing PropHunt and Freak Fortress, as well as interviews with Item-makers, mappers, and developers! There’s something for everyone to watch, and even play, in the Midsummer Mashup!

People always talk about what a great musician Mozart was. But you know who never updated any of his albums with free music? Go ahead, guess.

Did you guess Team Fortress 2? Bzzt. Wrong. Because we’re adding three new numbers from our Jungle Inferno update to the TF2 Fight Songs album. If you bought Fight Songs on Steam, you don’t have to do anything, because the songs have automatically been added to your account.

If you bought Fight Songs somewhere else, or even if you didn’t buy Fight Songs, or even if you stole Fight Songs, or did any of those things and then later sold Fight Songs, or bought a recording studio out of spite and recorded a competing version of Fight Songs… look, you’re not on trial here. Download all three songs for free and we’ll forget the whole thing ever happened.

Anyway, did you guess yet? Did you guess Mozart? Because that’s what we guessed, too. Except we looked him up while you were reading and it turns out he’s famous for updating all his hit albums. Spring is on its way and you know what that means: Spring cleaning, disposing of your winter ramen collection, and warmer weather flooding your basement with melted snow. Well, throw that to-do list into your overflowing dumpsters because there’s a new April Fools Mann vs Machine tour in town that’s served like heated leftovers fresh out of the microwave!

Operation Starched Silliness is an April Fools MvM charity tour brought to you by Tindall Berry that pits the Mercs against a meme-fueled robotic rampage. Complete all the waves in this intermediate-difficulty community tour and earn an in-game medal! Event servers are available worldwide in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.

In addition to waging a war against the memes, there is also a charity fundraising campaign for Doctors Without Borders to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Donations of $5 USD or above will earn an in-game donor medal! Item donations will also be accepted. Click here for instructions on how to donate.
