Tinkers’ construct/

What next?

So, you’ve built your first tools, gotten some ores, built a smeltery and have it up and running. What can you do next with tinkers’ construct? You could make more advanced tools, using a tool forge. You could start playing with alloys. You could also try to make your very own favorite tool. You might have even forgotten to start a farm and are surviving completely on rotten flesh.

A lot of this is already covered in other wiki pages.

— Tool forge

At this time of the game, I personally start making myself a tool forge. It’s a rather expensive recipe, but the ore cost can be halved by using the smeltery. Requirements for the tool forge: 18 iron ore, 6 sand, 6 gravel, 6 clay and 1 tool station (you can use 2 logs to make this, as shown earlier).

Tinkers’ Construct

Minecraft 1.12.2

boni
Requirements: Forge

Tinkers’ Construct is a great mod for constructing, repairing and even modifying tools and weapons in Minecraft. You can also smelt metals to create more powerful weapons and tools to add to your arsenal. You’ll start off with a handbook. This should be your number 1 tool in figuring out everything you can do with this mod. It’s full of recipes and guides to make this mod easier to understand. There are also 4 other craftable books to help with more advanced features.

The mod stems from patterns you create that ultimately craft the different parts to your desired tools and weapons. The tables you’ll need are the crafter, part builder, stencil table, tool station, and tool forge to get the basics going.

The Stencil Table allows you to turn blank patterns into essentially part blueprints. You then use these to create the basic pieces that will craft your tool or weapon. It’s very simple but can get a little overwhelming with how many combinations you can make. That’s where your books will come in handy so reference them often.

The advanced tools come in when you build a smeltery. This allows you to smelt metal into more powerful parts for your tools. The mod also adds a few new ores to the game that only further advance your tools beyond that of diamond capabilities.

So once you’ve got a smeltery and some metals smelted you can make casts from wooden tool parts. Then use those casts with stronger metals to make stronger parts. It’s like turning Minecraft into an RPG with leveling tools and upgrading their abilities and adding new parts to them.

And once you really get the hang of the mod you’ll be able to give your tools special modifiers like auto-repairing. So when your tool starts to deteriorate it’ll actually fix itself over time. Basically you can enchant your tools without needing experience first. It works entirely off of the items you have in your inventory. So instead of going into spells and XP to enhance your tools you can opt for hard work and determination with this mod.

This mod will rely heavily on referencing the in game guides. They will help you immensely in your new trade skills. Get to the point where you can craft yourself a really powerful hammer and blast through your mines in 3×3 chunks. It’s really effective at quick mining with excellent yield and results. There are tons more to do with this mod so have fun discovering new tools!

An additional API, Mantle, is also needed found here.

Молот;

Кирка;

Полуторный меч;

Рапира;

Лук;

Арбалет;

Overview

All Liquified Materials

The Smeltery is a multi-block structure used in the creation of higher-tier weapons and tools using metal and alloys. It is used to smelt ores, ingots or blocks of almost any metal as well as Obsidian. Alloys include Manyullyn, Bronze, Alumite, Aluminum Brass, and Pig Iron. But beware, if you or other mobs fall into the smeltery while it has liquid in, it causes damage, leaving a layer of blood in the smeltery. This can be used in creating Pig Iron, as well as some alloys added by ExtraTiC. Blood can also be poured into an empty Casting Table to make Congealed Blood. Blood can also be obtained by smelting Rotten Flesh or pushing mobs into the smeltery while it contains a molten liquid. Other liquids can also be obtained in this manner, Horses will give you glue, while Villagers provide Liquified Emerald which is also needed for Pig Iron, and Iron Golems provide Iron.

Tinkers’, beside the tools?

Tinkers’ Construct, beside the tools, also offer a few gadgets. Most of them are now in a mod called Tinkers’ Mechworks. However it keeps two major components: Tinkers’ armor and heart canisters.

Canisters

The canisters come in three different levels: Red, Yellow and Green. Miniature Red Hearts drop from any mobs and can be eaten to restore 10 full hearts of life. They can also be crafted into Red Heart Canisters. Miniature Yellow Hearts will drop from boss mob and will restore 20 full hearts of life when eaten. They can be crafted into Yellow Heart Canisters and into Miniature Green Hearts by surrounding them with Emeralds. The latter will restore a full 30 hearts when eaten and can be crafted into Green Heart Canisters. You can have a maximum of ten for each type of heart for a grand total of 80 life points, or 40 hearts!

Armor

Tinkers’ armor can be crafted by using Bronze Large Plates (The same one used into hammer recipe) in the same shape as vanilla armor. Each of them can be modified, like their tool counterpart. Each armor piece has a total of 30 modifiers. Note that not every modifier takes only one spot! You can mix and match the modifiers.

Modifiers

  • Redstone: 1 modifier per piece, adds 1% speed each (Max 30% per armor piece)
  • Diamond: 3 modifier per piece, adds 5% attack damage (Max 50% per armor piece)
  • Gold: 2 modifier per piece, adds 1% knockback resistance (Max 15% per armor piece)
  • Block of Quartz: 5 modifier per piece, adds 5 attack damage (Max 30 damage per armor piece)
  • Iron Large Plate: 3 modifier per piece, adds 2% protection (Max 20% protection per armor piece)
  • Red Heart Canister: 6 modifier per piece, adds 2 max health or 1 heart (Max 10 health per armor piece, giving you a maximum of 120 health or 60 hearts)
  • Congealed Blue Slime, Congealed Green Slime, and Ghast Tear: 5 modifier per combination, adds Jump boost

Other

Tinkers’ also adds one mob and a few worldgen items. The Blue Slime will spawn on a blue slime island, which can be found up at around y=150. These will spawn with special dirt and grass known as Blue Slime Dirt and Slimy Grass. It will also generate Slimy Water, which will spawn Blue Slimes.

For ore generation, Tinkers’ adds Copper, Tin, and Aluminum ore in the Overworld and Ardite and Cobalt ore in the Nether.

Crafting

You can make a Shortbow in a Tool Station by assembling different parts, like any other tool. It is made with two Bow Limbs and a Bowstring.

The material properties listed when making the parts does not correspond quite correctly to the Shortbow, as it uses a largely different relevant stat set, as listed below.  As a note, all stats listed are using the default Bowstring, and the other two strings may yield different results.

Material Stats
MATERIAL Draw Speed Arrow Speed Durability Misc.
Blue Slime 1.2 seconds 1.2 x 576
Green Slime 1.2 seconds 1.2 x 1,536
Pig Iron 1.2 seconds 1.2 x 384 Tasty, Reinforced 1
Bone 1.5 seconds 1 x 192
Wood 1 second 1 x 384
Cactus 1 second 1 x 384 Jagged
Paper 0.62 seconds 0.5 x 48 Writable
Thaumium 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 576 Thaumic
Ardite 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 960 Stonebound
Manyullyn 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 1,536
Copper 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 384
Iron 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 576 Reinforced 1
Alumite 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 768 Reinforced 2
Bronze 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 576 Reinforced 1
Cobalt 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 1,152 Reinforced 2
Steel 2.4 seconds 1.2 x 768 Reinforced 2

When mixing 2 different now limbs in to 1 shortbow, the numeric stats (Draw Speed, Arrow Speed multiplier, and Durability) are always the average of the two materials’ base values (plus or minus 2 hundredths of a second of draw speed) with the exception of the following materials, listed in the table below: Stone, Flint, Netherrack, and Obsidian.  When mixing these with any material other than these, the draw speed is far worse than the average of the two materials’ stats would indicate.

MATERIAL Draw Speed Arrow Speed Durability Misc.
Stone 0.8 seconds 0.2 x 10 Stonebound
Flint 0.8 seconds 0.2 x 10 Stonebound
Netherrack 0.8 seconds 0.2 x 10 Stonebound
Obsidian 0.8 seconds 0.2 x 10 Reinforced 3

Tested on unarmored Skeletons, spawned Creatively. Version 1.8.4a for Minecraft 1.7.10.

Crafting the Parts

You must first start off by crafting a Blank Pattern, and turning it into the desired part of a tool on the Stencil Table.  You will end up with a pattern specific to whichever part you are going to craft.

To determine which parts a given tool will require, check the Tool Station.  Clicking on the desired tool on the left will show which parts it requires on the right side. (Basic tools require 2 or 3 parts; advanced tools require 4 parts, and a Tool Forge.)

With this pattern, head over to the Part Builder (It is recommended to have a pattern chest beside your Part Builder, as you can view the patterns inside the chest from the Part Builder’s GUI.)

Note: Even if you’re going for metallic tools, you’ll need to do this next step anyway.

Make the part from something cheap. Preferably cobblestone or wood, but whatever material you don’t care about using up is fine. Place the pattern in one of the left two slots, and your desired non-metallic material beside it on the right.  The specifics pertaining to the material you have will show up beside it, detailing its durability, durability modifier, mining speed, mining level, and base attack values. Currently the two right side material slots (although different icons) result in the same outcome.  Useful for comparing materials though.

Each pattern has a different material cost, which is shown in the subtext when you hover your mouse over it.  This is how many material items it takes to craft.  Ex: A tool binding has a 0.5 material cost.  Crafting it will use up 1 cobblestone, and leave you with 0.5 of a cobblestone in the Part Builder, whereas a tough tool rod has a cost of 3, and will consume 3 cobblestone to craft.  You cannot use the Part Builder to craft with a different material if there’s still «half» of an item in it.  Remove the «shard» item that’s still there, or craft another part that has a cost of 0.5.

What do you do with the shards? You can make another 0.5-material-cost item by using the shard just as you would a full piece of material. If you have enough shards, you can even make a higher-cost part.

Material Traits[edit]

Depending on what Material is used in crafting will give the result different traits.

  • Stonebound — The tool mines faster as it wears out, but does less damage.
  • Reinforced — 10% chance per level of not losing durability on use.
  • Jagged — The tool does more damage as it wears out, but mines more slowly.
  • Writable — One extra modifier per piece.
  • Slimy — Appears to have a chance to spawn slimes when you break a block with the tool.
  • Thaumic — One extra modifier for using a single piece, two extra for using at least 3 pieces or by making it entirely from thaumium in the event the tool you make has 2 components (e.g. a shovel or a hatchet).
  • Tasty — Has a chance to drop bacon.

Notes on Traitsedit

  • The tool head determines the material needed to repair the tool.
  • Any component can contribute a trait, regardless of whether or not it otherwise affects any of the statistics of the tool.
  • Traits do not stack, except for Writable and Thaumic, as above.
  • The durability of basic tools is determined by the head material, and is modified by the handle material. The binding has no effect on durability.
  • The speed of basic tools is determined only by the head material.
  • The durability and speed of advanced tools are affected by each part. Specific information on this can be found on the page.
  • Specific information on weapon damage can be found on the page.

TAIGA(Tinkers alloying addon).

Adding Modifiers[edit]

Paper tool parts give +1 additional modifier per piece. (i.e. Using a paper binding allows the tool to have 4 modifiers. Making a tool all out of paper means will have 6 modifiers, but will have a slow mining speed and low harvest level).

1x Diamond + 1x Gold Block = 1 additional modifier. Can only be used once.
1x Enchanted Golden Apple + 1x Diamond Block = 1 additional modifier. Can only be used once.
1x Nether Star = 1 additional modifier. Can only be used once.

Non-paper tool: 3 modifiers (max. 6 with additional modifiers)
Tool with paper binding: 4 modifiers (max. 7 with additional modifiers)
Full-paper tool: 6 modifiers (max. 9 with additional modifiers)
(If you have Extra Utilities installed) Full-magical wood: 11 modifiers (max. 14 with additional modifiers)
